Cornered on Palestine
By pandering to the radical far-left faction of the ALP, the Albanese government has now painted itself into a corner over its support for recognition of a virtual state of Palestine in the United Nations. It is now expected to act materially by supporting a hostile, biased and irrational resolution against Israel. What did it think would happen? It was naive in the extreme for Albanese and Wong to imagine that their simultaneous criticism of Israel’s defensive war against Hamas, while turning a blind eye to protests by Islamists and the far left, would work. On the world stage, the government now looks foolish compared to other Western liberal democracies that are able to tell the difference between right and wrong.
